• Would you buy a new car from this firm?

  My attempt to buy a new VW Golf from Lookers, Burnley turned into a nightmare. On the day I went to collect my new car, I signed most of the paperwork with the salesman and paid the balance. Before signing the release form for the car, I went to inspect it. I immediately noticed a mark on the bonnet; a scratch in the paintwork. I agreed that the car bonnet should be resprayed and I rearranged to collect the car a week later. I met with another salesman (the third person dealing with the sale) but when I checked the paintwork I was astonished this time to see 2 more marks: the passenger door had been chipped on the edge, and there was a dent/chip on the tailgate. At this point I spoke to the manager, who admitted that the sale had been a disaster and made an offer of a refund. I later confirmed that I wanted to cancel the sale and I requested a refund of the original price and an insurance cost I incurred after cancelling the insurance on the new car. I heard nothing for a week. I had to ring the garage to ask for my money and they requested I email them. They had not acted on my request. I eventually received a payment but when checking my bank account I discovered the refund was £90 pounds less than I paid. It was another 5 weeks before I received my insurance costs. Throughout this incident Lookers exhibited an appallingly low level of quality control and financial organisation. They compounded their original incompetence with the new car by further delays and ineptitude over the finance.

• Poor customer Service, Lookers Burnley

  We recently bought a car from Lookers in Burnley for my girlfriend. Doing the deal with them was great but as soon as we had signed on the dotted service went downhill from there - this company NEVER call you back and I have complained about poor service to several different managers who seem not to care. There were several easily fixable things wrong with the car on collection, no tax as promised, no service log, and the company applied for finance in my name instead of my girlfriend's without even telling us because it was more straightforward! They are still denying this. Despite many niggles we have bought a great car from them (incidentally it's a Mazda) but this dealership have made my life a misery for the last 3 weeks. They DO NOT CARE!!

• Purchasing A Car From Lookers

  I bought a two year old VW Polo from Lookers in Burnley in Oct 2000 - the used car sales people were very friendly and attentive, although not very professional, until I had actually purchased the car. They then didn't want to know about any of the small teething problems - rattles, badly re-sprayed door etc. Even though I couldn't get through to a particular department on the phone, no-one from the garage EVER returned any calls I made. I have since contacted them with other queries and again, not been satisfied. Today, I called about havng a new sun-roof fitted and was promised someone would call back - typically, now two hours later, no call! Sadly, this poor attitude of shoddy customer service and aftersales service seems to be endemic in the new/used car industry and will not surprise many people. I will not use Lookers in Burnley again - I will go elsewhere to purchase my next car.
